Everyone in the vaping community knows that you’ll always get the best flavor quality and the most potent clouds with CCELL® vape cartridges. The porous ceramic wick in a CCELL® cartridge gives you one flavorful puff after another even with very thick oils – and what’s even more important is that the ceramic is impervious to heat and doesn’t break down during use as traditional vape wicks can. A CCELL® cartridge can stand up to multiple uses and refills, and it’ll continue giving you great flavor quality until the resins and residues from your vape oils begin to build up.
A CCELL® vape cartridge is an extremely durable piece of vaping hardware – so learning how to open and refill your cartridges is a great skill to add to your vaping arsenal. Every time you refill a CCELL® cartridge instead of throwing it away, you’re saving money. Those savings can really add up over time. Here’s how to open and refill a CCELL® cartridge.
How to Open a CCELL® Cartridge
Quick Guide for Opening a CCELL® Cartridge:
- Remove the cartridge from your device and grasp the mouthpiece.
- Twist the mouthpiece counterclockwise to open the cartridge.
- If the mouthpiece doesn’t twist off — and you’re certain the cartridge is designed for refilling — the mouthpiece may be stuck in place due to oil residue. Warm the cartridge gently to loosen the residue.
- Disposable vape cartridges are tamper evident and are designed to be used only until they’re empty. If you attempt to open and refill a disposable cartridge, the cartridge’s wall may crack.
Before you can start to think about opening your CCELL® cartridge, you need to know whether you’re using a disposable cartridge or one with a removable mouthpiece. If you purchased your own CCELL® cartridge in an empty state, you most likely bought a refillable cartridge with a twist-off mouthpiece. In that case, you can open the cartridge simply by twisting the mouthpiece counterclockwise. The mouthpiece unscrews for easy removal and refilling, and you’ll most likely get at least one or two refills out of the cartridge before the flavor quality begins to suffer.
The pre-filled vape cartridges sold in dispensaries, on the other hand, are generally disposable because it’s important for pre-filled cartridges to be tamper proof. You need to know that no one has opened the cartridge since it was originally filled at the factory. After filling, a disposable vape cartridge is closed permanently with the aid of a mechanical cartridge capper. It’s generally not possible to open a disposable CCELL® cartridge without a tool, and we don’t recommend trying because doing so risks damaging and ruining the cartridge. If you crack a disposable vape cartridge when trying to remove the mouthpiece, it will leak.
If you want to open and refill your CCELL® cartridges, make sure that you always buy cartridges with twist-off mouthpieces. We recommend using cartridges with 510 threading for compatibility with the widest variety of vape pens.
Use a Syringe When Filling a CCELL® Cartridge
When you open a CELL® cartridge, you’ll see the air chimney. That’s the tube leading from the bottom of the cartridge to the mouthpiece. The area around the air chimney is the cartridge’s reservoir. To fill the cartridge, you need a tool that can fit between the chimney and the outer wall of the cartridge. We strongly recommend using a blunt-tip syringe. You wouldn’t want to use something with a wide tip – like an e-liquid bottle – because it could lead to spillage and waste.
Use Gentle Heat to Loosen Viscous Vape Oils
Vape oils can vary greatly in their viscosities, and the viscosity of an oil is further affected by the temperature of the surrounding environment. Some oils are so thick that they almost have the consistency of something like honey or petroleum jelly. In that case, you may have trouble getting the oil into your syringe and dispensing it into your cartridge. You can loosen a very thick oil by warming it gently – by placing the container in a warm water bath, for instance – before filling your syringe. Avoid using intense heat because you don’t want the active compounds to vaporize.
Don’t Try to Fill Your CCELL® Cartridge with Wax
Note that CCELL® cartridges aren’t designed for use with waxy concentrates; you’ll want to use a wax coil for the best possible wax vaping experience.
How to Fill a CCELL® Cartridge
Quick Guide for Filling a CCELL® Cartridge:
- Note the capacity of the cartridge you’re filling. Most vape cartridges are designed to hold 0.5 or 1.0 ml of oil.
- Draw that amount of oil into a blunt-tip syringe.
- Insert the tip of the syringe between the cartridge’s center airflow hole and outer wall.
- Dispense the oil into the cartridge. The cartridge may appear to have a little room remaining at the top; that’s normal. Don’t overfill the cartridge.
- Twist the cartridge’s mouthpiece back on.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before vaping.
To open and fill a CCELL® cartridge, start by twisting off the mouthpiece as described above. If the mouthpiece spins in place but doesn’t unscrew, you’re probably using a disposable pre-filled cartridge that isn’t designed for refilling.
Add oil to your syringe. If you’re using a syringe with guidelines on the outside, watch the lines carefully to avoid waste. Most CCELL® cartridges hold either 0.5 or 1.0 ml of oil.
When you open your cartridge, you’ll see the chimney in the middle. Place the tip of the syringe between the outside of the chimney and the inner wall of the cartridge. Take special care to avoid getting oil in the chimney because doing so may cause leaking. It could even block airflow and prevent the cartridge from working at all.
Push the syringe’s plunger gently to dispense the oil into the cartridge. Remember the capacity of the cartridge you’re using. After you dispense 0.5 or 1.0 ml of oil, it’ll look like there’s still room at the top of the cartridge. Don’t overfill the cartridge, though, because that could cause leaking when you replace the mouthpiece.
If you’re refilling a CCELL® cartridge you’ve already used, you can get back to vaping immediately after filling the cartridge and replacing the mouthpiece because the cartridge’s wick is already saturated with oil. If you’re filling a new cartridge for the first time, though, we recommend allowing plenty of time for the oil to absorb into the wick before you start vaping. If you’ve filled your cartridge with a very thick oil, it’s wise to wait for about a half hour before using the cartridge to ensure that you won’t get a dry hit.
Can You Open and Refill a CCELL® Vape Pod?
If you own a CCELL® pod system, you should note that our warning above relating to disposable cartridges also applies to vape pods because all CCELL® pods are tamper proof and intended to be used one time only. A CELL® vape pod has a press-fit mouthpiece, and once the mouthpiece has been snapped into place, you shouldn’t attempt to remove it because doing so may damage the pod.
